“Fashion is my passion”, no, too strong. How about, “Passion is my fashion,” not quite right either….
On day 42, my head was in a spin. I began work on a new project which I had agreed to in principal, a few weeks ago. In practice, it is proving to be tricky.
A secondary school has asked me to convert my face to face presentation (remember the good old days?), with their year 11 cohort, into a video presentation.
Now, it's not the theme, which is causing me the grief. The topic is “Fast fashion to Smart fashion” and its right up my alley.
I was born into the rag trade. In 1925 my grandfather began a menswear business in Kew, Melbourne, which two of my brothers still manage today (photo shows my grandmother and my dad in the original store). When I was a child, my dad would take us into the closed store on a Saturday afternoon to do some catch up work. My siblings and I would race around the fixtures, play hide and seek in the change rooms and more often than not, I would come home with some gift from Dad. I always had my eye on something!
Clothes for me these days are more of a hobby. I love looking at clothes. My husband has familiarised himself with many a bench seat in Europe, while my senses and imagination were wildly engaged in stores that left me overwhelmed by the textures and colours, the patterns and possibilities. And I love to sew my own clothes. I am a fabric hoarder, I am unashamed to say.
Back to the video presentation: My real problem is the technology. Until recently, “cut and paste” was something I only ever did with scissors and glue. So, I have made some advancements, but not enough, and I’m in need of courage!
So, in this blog right now I make a resolution in writing. I am going to embrace this new challenge. I will find a program that will show me how to combine video and slides, and I will execute a polished and professional video, and I will do it all without driving my family to distraction (hmm, not so confident about that last one - my poor family).
