To date on our lock-down journey I have artfully avoided blogging about a project that is very dear to my heart. Day 47 and I have decided to spill the beans. I won’t keep you in the dark. D.I.Y.M.O.B stands for Do It Yourself Mother Of the Bride. I am attempting a project to make my own dress for the wedding of my daughter (so exciting), originally planned for July 4, now postponed to September 26.
I use the word "attempting", because I'm afraid to say, I am lacking in confidence and courage. I admit I am a reasonable sewer and I do love it. I have attempted a couple of projects that nearly killed me, but worked out fantastically: a duffle coat that I've worn to death, and re-covering our lounge suite. They were massive projects, with satisfying results. I won't blog here about my sewing flops. They are more than a few!
I love fashion and fabrics and appreciate being able to dress economically when I sew my own clothes. One of my favourite creations is a dress that I made for $6 and everyone asks me, “Is that from Country Road?” Now, that is gratifying!
So, I guess while I do have some experience this project is a bit tricky. The fine silky fabrics and complicated pattern are making it challenging. But I’m up for the challenge, and the prospect of this wonderful occasion is driving me onward.
(I have deliberately withheld details about the style and colours of the dress. As M.O.B, it is my prerogative to keep that a secret. The big reveal will follow in September.)
